Yanqing Cheng

Yanqing is a software developer/manager at Metaswitch Networks.  Her primary expertise is in C – specifically, source code for networking protocols.  Having dabbled in both development and support, she’s of the opinion that few things in her job are more satisfying than successfully debugging a memory scribble.  Since graduating in Maths at university, Yanqing has been in the industry for 2 years.  Outside of work, she’s an avid lindy hop dancer.

PANELISTS

Jenny Mulholland – Moderator

Jenny studied Physics at university and entered IT in 2006 as a graduate C++ programmer within Symbian’s Professional Services department, helping Motorola, Fujitsu and others make phones based on Symbian OS.  In more recent years Jenny’s professional interests have extended into project management, and her current role in technical pre-sales where she helps Softwire’s customers explore their requirements and writes bids for new projects.

Meral Sahin – Expedia

Meral is a Software Development Engineer at Expedia Affiliate Network, a division within Expedia Inc, working on internal services supporting our API.  She is passionate about designing and developing simple solutions to technology problems and enjoy working in fast paced, collaborative environments.  She loves doing yoga, traveling, meeting new people and experiencing different cultures.

Suzanne Hamilton – Softwire

Suzanne started her career in physical chemistry as a PhD student and then researcher, but switched to software development when she realised how much she enjoyed writing code to control the experiments and analyse data.  She is now a tech lead at the software consultancy Softwire. Her work there has included building sites for customers like the BBC, and helping to create a scalable API that handles millions of users for a large telecoms provider.  In her spare time, Suzanne enjoys learning new languages (programming and human) and dancing West Coast Swing.
